The Mystery Maladies that Plagued Ireland's Past

About this project
Lost in Time: The Mystery Maladies that Plagued Ireland's Past is a mini-exhibition that showcases a selection of lesser known or mysterious infectious diseases recorded in historical accounts.
This digital project is part of Heritage Week 2022 and Pestilence! The History of Pandemics in Ireland, a virtual exhibition project by The Old Anatomy Museum of the School of Medicine of Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin, funded by The Heritage Council.

Pestilence! The History of Pandemics in Ireland is a virtual exhibition that explores the social, medical, and cultural experience of infectious diseases on the island. It focuses on historical pandemics, their impact on the Irish population, and their associated beliefs, fears, and public health strategies as they evolve through history. The main axis of the exhibition, a census report by Dr. William Wilde in 1856 that traces the history of infectious disease in Ireland, is expounded through artefacts and specimens, personal accounts, medical and historical analysis. Pestilence! launches online on September 19 2022.
